Menopause
Menopause naturally occurs when a woman’s menstrual cycles stop –
most commonly between ages 46 and 54. For many women, menopause is the
beginning of a new phase of life. A gynecologist’s job is to help guide
women through this physical, hormonal and emotional change in the
healthiest way possible. For some women, this may include hormonal
therapy.
During menopause, irritability, insomnia, weight fluctuations and
changes in sex drive are common, and as many as three out of every four
women may experience hot flashes. Although menopause and its symptoms
vary for every woman, most symptoms cease about a year after the last
menstrual cycle. It is important for women to discuss questions or
concerns about menopause and its symptoms at regular gynecological
appointments.
